So, It’s getting cold around here. Like most folks I know, when it’s cold and gray out, I love to wrap my hands around a nice hot bowl of soup!
But not the canned kind…the REAL kind. The kind you imagine a loving grandma would serve you…or maybe she hit you in the head with that wooden spoon she stirred it with because you were too close to the stove. Maybe you didn’t have a grandma, but, look, anyhow…
Soup. Love soup. When you’re sick, they heal you. They really do. You got the Interwebs, look it up, Chicken soup really can help heal a cold. I’ve recently discovered that the main reason for this mystical healing power is much deeper than just the chicken meat in the soup, but in the actual bones of them plucky beasties, the actual marrow. How do we get it out? We make what’s called bone broth. It’s kind of a funky name, so I just call it broth. The old phrase “you are what you eat” seems to apply here. Bone broth is said to support joints, your teeth and anything related to collagen, like your skin!…makes sense. But bone broth is also supposed to help with your adrenals and aid your digestion of grains. Why? Collagen has been found to help heal the lining of the gastrointestinal tract, which includes the stomach and the intestines. This means that heartburn or GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease) and many of the conditions associated with intestinal inflammation can be helped with bone broth.
All this and it tastes amazing! I’ve made some killer ramen with this stuff.
All you need is a little sea salt.
So yeah, give it a shot. You can use whatever bones you like. But try to use bones from a healthy source.
Someone said Chinese broth made from boiling fish bones could even revive the dead…so there’s your spooky visual as I say Happy Halloween, y’all!
